Richard Manny, PharmD

Clinical Services Manager

Dr. Richard Manny is the Clinical Services Manager for the American Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AIPS). In this capacity he provides consultation and management services on the clinical aspects of multiple programs and services offered by AIPS.
With over 30 years of active pharmacy and pharmacology practice, Dr. Manny has worked in virtually every aspect of pharmacy including retail, community, hospital, clinical, home infusion, university faculty, research, drug information, pharmaceutical industry, and forensic settings. Presently he maintains an active patient care practice in which he manages patients with complex pharmacology regimens and medication problems. He is also a consultant to Florida Medical Examiners and the Wuesthoff Reference Toxicology Laboratory for the purposes of identifying and resolving the challenges related to determining drug or chemical induced death.

Dr. Manny has a strong belief that all pharmacists and clinical pharmacologists are patient advocates and must focus on the proper and precise use of medications in patents to achieve the greatest effectiveness and avoidance of harm. His passion is to mentor pharmacy students and pharmacist in understanding these key values and techniques. He joined AIPS with the specific purpose of reaching the broadest audience of patients and practitioners to facilitate substantive advances in pharmacy, clinical pharmacology, and patient medication therapy management.
During his career he has served many leadership roles including the establishment of the first clinical pharmacy program at H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. He has served on the Hillsborough County American Cancer Society Board of Directors, and Pharmacy Advisor to the Hillsborough County Healthcare Plan and expanded drug information services at Clinical Pharmacology Services. He was interviewed for the recently published book, The Good Pharmacist: Characteristics, Virtues and Habits. This is based on his passion for observation, persistence in problem solving and clinical teaching.

Dr. Manny has served as consultant, editorialist and content developer for news media. He has been interviewed on numerous occasions on topics as wide ranging as driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, weight loss, and the 2001 anthrax attacks. He speaks regularly to non-medical organizations and has published a weekly column on proper medication use. He provides monthly toxicology grand rounds to the District Nine Medical Examiners and speaks regularly in topics of medication errors and toxicology.

Dr. Manny earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and a Fellowship in Oncology Pharmacy from the University of Illinois Chicago.
